Gabriel Fauré

Gabriel Fauré was a pioneering French composer whose elegant melodies, subtle harmonies and deeply expressive music helped shape the development of French music from the Romantic era into the twentieth century.

Gabriel Fauré

Gabriel Fauré was one of the most influential French composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Known for his refined melodies, subtle harmonies and intimate, expressive style, he wrote extensively for piano, voice, chamber ensembles and choir. His best-known works include the Requiem, Pavane, Cantique de Jean Racine and Nocturnes for piano. As a teacher and later director of the Paris Conservatoire, Fauré also exerted a lasting influence on a generation of French composers, including Maurice Ravel and Nadia Boulanger.
